George Balanchine

Effervescent dances set to music from Gaetano Donizetti’s opera Dom Sébastien. Balanchine created this cheerful and sunny work for “Salute to Italy,” a 1960 New York City Ballet program celebrating the one-hundredth anniversary of Italy’s unification.

Featuring music by Philip Glass and showcasing Peck’s keen eye for manipulating bodies to form complex geometric structures and unique patterns. A Bloomington premiere and the first time this New York City Ballet resident choreographer’s work will be seen at the Jacobs School of Music.

GISELLE ACT 2 PAS DE DEUX

Giselle and her beloved are reunited in this woeful pas de deux from Giselle, the archetypal romantic ballet, with a score by Adolphe Adam. It is the perfect representation of 200 years of ballet as an expressive form for love, pain, strength, passion, and social commentary.  

ANGELS IN THE ARCHITECTURE

Inspired by the beauty and simplicity of Shaker life and set to music from Aaron Copland’s Appalachian Spring. The title for this work is derived from a Thomas Merton quote: “The peculiar grace of a Shaker chair is due to the fact that an angel might come and sit on it.”
